Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are microporous hybrid materials constructed by metallic nodes and their organic ligands. In 2015, the first MOF glass, namely ZIF-4 (Zn(C3H3N2)2) glass, was reported. At the same year, the first coordination polymer glass was invented. Since then, MOF glasses have attracted significant interest of researchers and various new types of MOF glasses have been emerging. While significant progress has been made in understanding the structure and relaxation of MOF glasses, a variety of their functionalities have also been discovered. In this talk, I will discuss recent major advances in understanding the structure-functionality-property relationships of MOF glasses. Additionally, I will present several striking examples of MOF glass functionalities that could lead to real-world applications in areas such as optics, energy storage, membranes, and photocatalysis. Finally, I will outline the major challenges and perspectives for future MOF glass research.
